The Legal Aid Department of the Somaliland Lawyers Association has published its first-quarter overview, showcasing landmark strides in humanitarian legal aid action. Funded in collaboration with our development partners, the mobile defense clinic focused on pending pre-trial detentions exceeding constitutional limits.
Key Stats from this Intervention:
- 450+ detainees received individualized counsel.
- 112 unconstitutional pre-trial detentions successfully dismissed or bailed.
- 45 juveniles transferred to restorative care networks.
Nasra Abdi Warsame, Legal Aid Desk Officer, highlighted that "the core challenge remains access to qualified lawyers in decentralized villages. We are hoping to launch a pro-bono transport subsidy program for young graduates to represent individuals in Sool and Sanaag."
